Trick Or Treat

I am officially "Halloweened" out.  I have to say I enjoy watching the kiddos have fun, but this is not my favorite holiday.  Truthfully, it never really has been.  I don't like most of what comes along with Halloween, but I allow my girls to dress up as long as it is completely innocent and non scary.  I tend to veer towards cute when it comes to picking out costumes.

Sydney has been saying she wanted to be a princess.  Big shocker there.  First she picked Sleeping Beauty.  We had the costume already, well my friend Brandy did anyway, so I borrowed it from her.  Then I went to Target and got her a blond wig.  She put it on and came running out of the bathroom screaming.  It was hilarious.  That was the end of that.  I guess seeing her self with blond hair freaked her out.

She then proclaimed that she would be Belle because she has brown hair.  Perfect, we have that dress too so I won't have to buy anything.  Win, win.

I think she makes one beautiful Belle if I do say so myself.  Thanks to Auntie RoRo who came over and curled her hair.  I'm jealous of my daughter's hair.  It is so gorgeous.  Both my girls got lucky in that department.

Brooklyn decided she wanted to be Strawberry Shortcake.  Unlike Syd, she was determined to find a costume wear she could wear a red wig.  We settled on pink.

We had a great time in our neighborhood tonight.  We love our neighbors and feel incredibly blessed to live where we do.  We got home and the girls laid out all of their loot.

We told the girls they couldn't keep all of their candy and that they needed to decide what they would keep and what they would donate.  Brooklyn was totally serious and I started cracking up when I saw her donate pile.  I don't think so baby girl.

I hope you all had a wonderful and safe time with your families tonight.  Who's ready for Thanksgiving?

Minnie & Jilly Out on the Town

Rodents invaded the Lord household this year. No, not those small ugly black creatures that eat all of your food, but two big ones. A mouse and a hamster to be exact. Sydney was that popular mouse we've all heard of and Brooklyn was a Zhu Zhu Pet hamster, named Jilly.
My sisters neighborhood had their trick-or-treating on Saturday so we had our Darin Family party at her house. We ate chili, played games and then went trick or treating. One of the games the girls played was bobbing for donuts. I had never seen this before, but it was so hilarious to watch them. Well, you can see for yourselves. (Excuse the background noise. We're Italian, nuff said).

You have to try this at home. So much fun. It was so easy too. Just fishing line and powdered donuts. That simple.
There is a house at the end of the culd-e-sac that goes all out for Halloween. Almost nightly, we take a walk down and let the girls just look at all the lights. They love it. This was taken in front of their house. I told them last night we won't have a reason to walk down there anymore. She reminded me that there is always Christmas. Can't wait to see what they come up with. (Brooklyn makes daddy where this cowboy hat every year. It's tradition).

We hit about 20 houses and then the girls were done. They were tired. Trick-or-Treating two nights in a row is a little much. Don't think we'll do that again. There is an upside, however, I didn't have to buy any candy. We used what the girls got on Saturday to hand out on Sunday. Saved money and the girls didn't get all the sugar. I'd say that was a win, win for everyone.

I think the girls had more fun passing out candy after they were done, then actually getting it. They sat on the front porch and waited for kids to come. Syd was practically yelling for people to come get candy. She was even telling our neighbor Liz, who was also handing out candy, to come get some of her candy. The funny thing was that Sydney was acting and talking so grownup. She would say things like, "Ooh, that's a scary costume." A little 2 year old came up to get candy and as she was walking away, Syd grabbed a sucker,(her favorite), and stuck it in the mom's purse and said, "Oh here, she'll like this too."

All and all, it was a fabulous weekend with my sweet hubby and girls. So blessed! Now it's time to get ready for Thanksgiving. We will be having it at our house again this year, so I have lots to do. No rest for the weary. Tis the season.

Happy Halloween

We had a wonderful Halloween. Sydney was a monkey and Brooklyn was a ladybug, purple ghost and housewife. Sounds like a weird costume right? Well she wasn't all 3 at the same time. The child kept wanting to change costumes. She is definitely a girl.

First she was a ladybug. She wore her costume to school and to our family Halloween party. Then out of the blue she said she wanted to be a purple ghost. I have no earthly idea where that came from. So off to Walmart I went to get her a couple yards of cheap purple fabric. She wore the ghost costume to our neighborhood Publix for games and candy. Well she decided she didn't like it, which I don't blame her. It was pretty lame and hard to wear. We still hadn't gone trick or treating so what was she going to wear? I decided to run upstairs and get her robe, stick some sponge curlers in her hair and give her a baby doll and make her a housewife. She loved it.

Finally off to trick or treating. It was a nice clear night thankfully. We were out long enough to get a little candy. Sydney got tired first so I took her back to the house, while daddy stayed out with Brooklyn.

Halloween was a success. Now where do I hide the candy?

The Hunt for Spiders

Yesterday daddy took the girls on a daddy/daughter date to The Factory for a spider hunt. The contest was for kids age 3-5. They put out pieces of chocolate candy with spider wrappers and hid them outside for the kids to find. Brooklyn went looking on her own and daddy took Sydney around helping her look. They both did great and Brooklyn one 3rd place collecting 27 spiders. Sydney collected 11. Brian said that Brooklyn probably would have at least got second if not first place had he helped her. The other kids parents were helping them look, but Brooklyn did it all by herself. The prize was a $10 gift card to any store in The Factory. They had a great time and were so excited to show me their bags of spiders when they got home. I have a feeling the spiders will end up in the Halloween bucket to hand out to kids so we don't end up eating them all.
